Clyde Butcher is an American large format camera photographer known for wilderness photography of the Florida landscape. Butcher began his career photographing in colour but after the death of his son he switched to black and white. After his initial success he moved to Florida where he purchased 14 acres in big Cyprus national preserve and began to photograph in black and white using large format cameras. In his work, Clyde Butcher intended to create dramatic shots of landscapes and the sky. He does this by using light and contrast to make his images bold and to make the subject stand out. He wanted an audience to react in a way that makes them see the beauty in the ordinary. Clyde Butcher, in this piece of work, is considering the focal point and how everything pulls away from it, including the clouds. He wanted us to be able to explore the the wilderness he photographed from within the picture. Butcher has used black and white in this piece, this creates a dramatic tone for the image. this supports the photographers idea to photograph in black and white for his son.

Sato Tokihiro is a Japanese photographer. he captures unusual expressions of light and space and interpretations of performance and dance. Sato Tokihiro intended to capture dancing lights in unique environments. he did this by using a long exposure and moving lights. he wanted us to react by being confused but at the same time at peace. In this piece of work Sato Tokihiro is considering natural light as well as staged light, this is shown by his consideration of the background and time of day and the unnatural dancing light in the foreground. He wanted to explore dance, space and light. Sato Tokihiro has used long exposures and long shutter speeds, this creates an effect as if light is moving on its own. this supports the photographers point about expressing and exploring dance and light.
